Welcome to summer school at leighton park

WELCOME FROM THE DIRECTOR OF MARKETING & ADMISSIONS

At Leighton Park, we love welcoming students from around the world to experience a leading British boarding education.

We have been recognised in two national awards for the Best Independent Senior School 2023, with our students achieving some of the best academic progress in the country.

This summer we were delighted to welcome over 230 international students representing 20 different nationalities to our first Summer School at Leighton Park…and from all the extremely positive feedback we have received from students, parents, Group Leaders and agents, we can look forward to welcoming more students in 2026!

Leighton Park’s beautiful and safe parkland location, 25 minutes from London, 20 minutes from Oxford and 30 minutes from London Heathrow also makes it an exceptional setting to experience some of the very best that England has to offer.

The programme is all inclusive and there is no requirement to pay for extras. However, there will be opportunities for souvenirs or gifts and we also operate a tuck shop where students can purchase snacks and refreshments. We recommend that students bring with them a cash card whereever possible, since this gives better security against theft and more flexibility for a top-up by generous parents should it be needed! If you must bring cash we would recommend no more than £60 depending on spending habits.

If you are bringing your child to campus or picking them up at the end of their stay, the best times to do so are: 2pm to 4pm for arrivals; 9am to 11am for departures. If you cannot make these times please let us know and we will arrange for someone to be available for your anticipated time. In all cases it is helpful if you can give us an estimate of when you will be arriving on campus.

Students are welcome to bring sports equipment with them should they choose to (e.g. tennis raquet) but equipment is provided as part of the activities. Sports wear is not provided. Sports facilities are all-weather courts so a good pair of trainers are usually sufficient.

There is a laundry service once a week for underwear and light items of clothing but students can use the washing machines at other times under the supervision of summer school staff. There is no extra charge for laundry.

25% deposit due at the time of booking. Balance to be paid no later than 8 weeks before course start date. For cancellation prior to arrival the following charges apply: More than eight weeks = forfeit of deposit; Within eight weeks = 75% of total invoice cost; Within two weeks = 100% of total invoice cost.

The summer school follows strong safeguarding procedures and has trained staff available 24 hours a day. All staff receive First Aid training, and students have quick access to local medical care, including the Royal Berkshire Hospital just 5 minutes away. Health, wellbeing and safety are central to the school’s award-winning pastoral care.

Approximately 1:10 with supervision being consistent and strong, with staff housed onsite, teachers in small classes (maximum 16 students) and activity teams managing groups closely. The environment is intentionally structured to ensure every student is seen, supported and safe.

Summer School staff live on campus, supervise students around the clock, and accompany them during lessons, activities and excursions. Boys and girls are accommodated separately, and clear supervision is in place at all times across the boarding houses and campus activities.

English lessons are delivered by EngXcel, which is British Council–accredited, meaning teachers meet strict professional standards. Activity leaders, coaches and arts instructors are appropriately qualified in their specialisms, ensuring high-quality, safe instruction.

Yes. As a UK boarding school hosting children, Leighton Park follows safeguarding regulations requiring suitability checks for all staff working with young people. These checks are part of the school’s strict safeguarding procedures.

Leighton Park Summer School staff receive thorough training before students arrive, with a strong focus on safeguarding, first aid, health and safety, and pastoral care, as required for all UK boarding schools. All summer school staff complete basic First Aid training and are fully briefed on the school’s welfare procedures, emergency protocols, supervision standards and child-protection responsibilities. EngXcel, the accredited English-teaching partner, employs teachers who meet strict British Council requirements and follow ongoing professional development standards in modern language-teaching practice. This ensures that every member of staff—from teachers to activity leaders—is fully prepared to support students safely, confidently and professionally.

The camp welcomes students from over 20 nationalities, creating a friendly, multicultural environment where diversity is celebrated. The school’s values emphasise respect, community and personal development for every student.

Clear safeguarding rules, age-appropriate accommodation guidelines, supervised movement around campus, and structured daily schedules ensure safety and good behaviour. Orientation sessions teach students how to stay safe, who to talk to, and how support systems work.

Students are welcome to bring mobile phones, but usage is sensibly managed to help them stay focused, safe and socially engaged. Phones may be used freely during designated free-time periods—such as before breakfast, in the boarding houses, and after evening activities—but not during lessons, afternoon sessions, excursions (except for photos), or organised evening events. Staff remind students if usage becomes distracting, and in rare cases may hold a phone temporarily to support positive behaviour. WiFi is available campus-wide, and parents are encouraged to contact their child during suitable free-time hours, with staff always available for urgent communication.
